Gary's counts have been holding up better this week. Still, Gary had another blood transfusion this afternoon at Columbia, a nice energy boost. After seven hours at the hospital, we returned home to Riverside Drive and - you guessed it - sat outside again in the park.
More precisely, we roosted on the giant marble benches of the NYC Fireman's Memorial. This impressive stone monument to the men and horses who perished in the line of duty was dedicated exactly one hundred years ago.
Gary's walking is still slow, and he takes stairs one-at-a-time. The problem is not the leukemia but rather an infection near his knee that is causing pain but is expected to clear up in a few days.
It was a lovely evening. Several nice dogs passed by, cheering us up with their wagging tails!
Tomorrow, two doctors' appointments: Dr. Lamanna at Columbia in the morning, followed by Dr. Barrientos (another cherished member of Gary's medical team) at LIJ Hospital. Hopefully lots of discussion about next steps. Thereafter, if time and energy permit, we'll visit Gary's mom in Queen's on the way home!
