The Berkshires will still be there

With my counts suppressed, nose bleeds continuing on and off, and lowish energy, we decided it's best to postpone the weekend in the Berkshires and stay close to home.  Since the transplant is being delayed we will have more opportunities to get away.

Meanwhile we were out yesterday and again this morning enjoying some nice, if short, walks in Riverside Park.  We're so lucky to have that so close by, and to have such lovely weather right now.   We walked past a long-standing community garden, in Riverside Park at 91st Street, and had a nice chat with one of the volunteers, a garden designer who's designed projects ranging from Rockefeller Center to the Bronx.  The garden is absolutely beautiful.

Last night we watched part of the new HBO movie "Clear History", starring Larry David, and that was a great way to take my mind off  things.  Thanks, John Martin, for the pointer!  The movie is very funny and at the same time stupid, annoying, and really clever. In other words, typical Larry David.  I can't wait to watch the rest this afternoon.  A lot of it takes place on Martha's Vineyard, though it was filmed mostly in a coastal town north of Boston.  There are some beautiful aerial shots of the Vineyard, and some nice shots of some local landmarks like the Chilmark Store.

This week I have an appointment every day, though the schedule is less packed than other weeks.  Hopefully I'll get more insight on the nosebleeds, the counts, and when I'll be restarting radiation.

Brian is going to Ottawa and Toronto from Wednesday-Friday to see family and friends.  He's been spending so much time at hospitals with me lately that I'm glad he'll be getting a break.

  1. Well, I' m happy that despite everything, you are enjoying some nice walks, some good HBO, and the park. Right now I am sending you lots of anti-nosbleed vibes. Really looking forward to seeing you both soon! xoxox

  2. Hey Gary. Waiting at airport to pick up grandson Gabe visiting for a week. Have you read Caleb's Crossing? Also takes place on MV, but in 18th century. Great book. Susan also recommends The Caretaker by A.X. Ahmad. She loved it.

    Lots of love. Shelly.

  3. Sounds like a solid low-key weekend. When I think "community garden", I think vegetables! But this is one is to look at, not graze in, I guess. All the best for the week ahead.

  4. Gary, this sounds like a smart plan. The Berkshires WILL be there when you are ready to visit. As for Larry David, well, "laughter is the best medicine." Enjoy whatever tickles you.

Personally, I love that community garden off Riverside. It has such lovely, colorful flowers from early spring into late fall. When I walk that far north, I always detour off the river path up to see it. Maybe we will bump into one another again, though I am not an early bird like you two.

Glad Brian will get to see his family this week, but I'll miss seeing him in class on Thu. I'm wishing him a great reunion and easy flights up and back. I'm wishing you a replenishment of your strength and the cessation of the pesky nosebleeds...a.s.a.p.

    XOXO to you both,
    Andrea
