Another huge appreciation to Gary's friend and work-colleague EDITH who accompanied Gary through this afternoon's rounds of appointments at Sloan-Kettering, including to urgent care for another blood transfusion.
On the medical side, results from Wednesday's bone marrow exam show increased leukemia activity inside the bone marrow. That is one of two ways that leukemia "activity" is measured. The other way is to measure any swelling in the lymph nodes. With swelling still present in the lymph nodes, and with leukemia still active in the bone marrow, Gary's transplant is on indefinite hold. The bone marrow results, although unwelcome, do explain why Gary is needing so many transfusions.
The medical focus now shifts back to addressing the underlying leukemia, itself. Docs now brainstorming on next steps.
PS: MANY THANKS to Gary's circle of friends, loved ones, and supporters who have "commented" on the blog, or by e-mail. We love reading each and every message.
Sending good, healthy, and wise vibes and prayers and thoughts to all those doctors doing the brainstorming. And this message is filled with love and positive healing thoughts for the recipient of the care of the doctors -- for you Gary.
ReplyDeleteAll good vibes much appreciated! Thanks Joan!
DeleteWell, I will send vibes to Gary's marrow and nodes to get on the ball! ;) And vibes for the doctors to brainstorm a most excellent solution to this issue that will result in the transplant going forth asap. In the meantime, I send you our love. xoxo
ReplyDeleteExcellent minds are indeed brainstorming, Knatolie! Unfortunately, narrow corporate interests have conspired to deny Gary "compassionate access" to new breakthrough medicine that would be a big help right now. Hopefully, that will change soon.
DeleteUgh, damn those narrow corporate interests!!!!! :(
DeleteSending all my love and best wishes!
ReplyDeleteHi Shari! Now that you're back in the city, we'll get u over for café and something vegetarian.
DeleteHi Gary, I'm not great at keeping up contact, but want you to know my thoughts are with you. Hope things improve, and that you can move forward with the stem-cell transplant as some point soon. Sending you many HUGS from up here in Toronto. David :-)
ReplyDeleteHey David! Thanks for keeping up contact! It's always excellent to hear from you.
