Those who know Gary well know he loves long walks in the city, just for fun. So it was especially difficult having been cooped up in hospital so much, last month. I'm happy to report that his "walking legs" are coming back strong, and all the pedestrian excursions we've done this week are doing wonders for both body and soul!
Later today, Gary went to Columbia University Medical Center for a penultimate check-up with his cherished leukemia doctor, Dr. Nicole Lamanna. (With the transplant on the horizon, treatment decisions are now being made more by Dr. Craig Sauter, Gary's stem-cell transplant doctor at MSK.)
After redoing Gary's blood work, today, Dr. Lamanna gave Gary one unit of platelets and a Neulasta injection to boost up his immune system - topped of by a huge dose of encouragement and good wishes!
Overall, Gary's doing fine today. He encouraged me to go to my Thursday evening ballet class, which I did and thoroughly enjoyed!
