Visitors to Gary in hospital last month - photos and a video!

It's been just over three weeks now since Gary was discharged from the hospital.  And I'm happy to report that he's getting stronger by leaps and bounds every day!   In part, it's due to good medication of course.  But I'm sure it was also due to the focussed outpouring of support from so many friends and family.

Gary will follow with a more detailed update on his next medical steps.

Here is Uncle Ben (on the Cohen side) from Toronto, in our apartment, two weeks ago today.

Uncle Ben came to The Big Apple for the sole purpose of visiting us and just being with Gary.  Thank you Uncle Ben for bringing us good cheer, and also for helping us think about about important topics of life and mortality, handling fear, and of cultivating mindfulness and gratefulness.

Meryl, Gary, and Brian - about five weeks ago!   Compare this one with the one above, Gary looking so much better at home!   Meryl is a long-standing friend of Gary's - a Cheer-You-Up Machine!

 Meryl bought Gary these two stuffed animals for Gary's first hospital stay in 2005: "Rhino" the rhinoceros, and "Ernie".   For eight years, without fail, Gary has brought these two stuffed mascots to his hospital room, whenever he is admitted.  Thank you Meryl!!!

Meryl is a publicist by profession.   Here is a homemade video, direct from Gary's hospital room last month, demonstrating how rubber gloves can become musical instruments!

This cubist poster was made by our niece, Ruthie (of blood-drop fame).  The "computer printout" look of this simple artwork greatly appealed to Gary, and it adorned his hospital room wall at Columbia!  Thank you Ruthie!

Here, my sister Susie is bringing Uncle Gary a get-well card from her kids in NJ, along with a special "words of wisdom" calendar from above-mentioned wonderful niece, Ruthie!

See the headphones Gary is wearing?  Not a Walkman.  It's a personal sound amplifier to compensate for some temporary hearing loss that Gary is suffering at the moment.   They connect to the little microphone device you can see sitting on the table, in front of Susie.   You might also have noticed Gary wearing them in the Garython 1.0 photos.

Finally, something goofy from friend, Eileen, who snapped this Mickey Mouse photo, last month, on Broadway & 104th.  Like Gary, he maintains a radiant smile and excellent posture, even while feeling a little out of order, at times.  A great example for all of us!
