Today, Gary met with Craig Sauter, his stem-cell transplant doctor at MSK. Dr. Sauter was very pleased with how fast the swollen lymph nodes in Gary's neck and under the arms melted away after only 12 doses of radiation. On Monday, Gary will begin the second part of the radiation plan, this time to treat the lymph nodes in his abdomen and groin. If all goes well, those nodes will shrink, too, putting Gary into "remission" and therefore eligible to proceed to the transplant phase on August 20th.
With the weather in New York beautifully warm and pleasant, we enjoyed another iced-coffee at an outdoor cafe on First Avenue this evening, after the doctor's appt.
From now until August 20th, Gary will have either a doctor's appointment or a radiation treatment every single day, M-F. So our goal is to work around those necessary medical tasks and get outside with friends as family as much as possible before the transplant starts.
Ugh, daily doctor's appointments! Glad you are getting outside and enjoying the summer while you can. xoxo
ReplyDeleteThe heat wave is over in NYC, and we are making the most of it! Some days have as many as five (!) doctors' appts and tests leading up to the transplant, but we Keep Calm and Carry On! xxoo B
